Ingredients

  • 1 (1 lb.) can sliced beets or 1 quart frozen beets
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/4 c. beet liquid from can
  • 1/3 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • a few grains pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. cloves

Directions

    Drain beets; save 1/4 cup of the liquid.

    Melt butter or margarine.

    Blend in flour.

    Add 1/4 cup beet liquid.

    Cook stirring constantly, until thickened.

    Add remaining ingredients and stir until sugar dissolves.

    Add drained beets.

    Heat to serving temperature.
