  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. hot water

    Sift dry ingredients and add to mix.

    Add hot water and beat until smooth. Pour in a greased and floured 9-inch pan; bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.
