Ingredients
- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 4 1/2 c. warm water (110~ to 115~)
- 6 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening, melted and cooled
- 12 to 12 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
Directions

1In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in water.

2Add sugar, salt and shortening.

3Stir until dissolved.

4Add half the flour; beat until smooth.

5Mix in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough that does not stick to sides of bowl.

6Turn onto floured surface.

7Knead 8 to 10 minutes.

8Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top.

9Cover and allow to rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.

10Punch down dough.

11Cover and let rest for 15 minutes.

12Divide dough into 4 parts.

13Shape into loaves.

14Place in greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch pans.

15Let rise until doubled, about 30 to 35 minutes.

16Remove from pans and cool on wire racks.
