Homemade "Cracker Jack"

- 10 c. plain popped corn
- 1 1/2 c. peanuts
- 1/2 c. margarine
- 1 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 c. dark brown corn syrup (Karo light is okay)
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Mix together the popped corn and peanuts in a large bowl or a roast pan.

2Keep warm in a 250° oven.

3Melt margarine in a 2-quart saucepan.

4Stir in the brown sugar, corn syrup and salt.

5Bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly.

6Boil without stirring for 5 minutes.

7Stir in baking soda and vanilla.

8Quickly pour over warm popped corn and peanuts mixture while tossing until popped corn and nuts are well coated.

9Bake at 250° for 45 minutes.

10Stir every 15 minutes.

11Make sure every piece of popcorn has been moved.

12Turn out on aluminum foil.

13Store in a tight container.
