Homemade "Cracker Jacks"

- 10 c. popped corn
- 1 1/2 c. cocktail peanuts
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 c. dark corn syrup
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Mix corn and peanuts together in large bowl or roasting pan. Keep warm in 250° oven.

2Melt butter in heavy 2-quart saucepan. Stir in the brown sugar, corn syrup and salt.

3Bring to rolling boil, stirring constantly.

4Then boil without stirring for 5 minutes.

5Remove from heat; stir in soda and vanilla.

6Quickly pour over warm popcorn and nuts while tossing until well coated.

7Spread out on shallow baking pan or cookie sheet.

8Bake at 250° for 45 minutes.

9Stir every 15 minutes.

10Make sure every piece of popcorn has been moved around on the bottom.

11Remove and turn out on foil to cool.

12Store in airtight container.

13Makes 2 quarts.
