  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup grated yellow onion
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • Pinch crushed red pepper flakes
  • One 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 8 fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

    In a large skillet, combine the oil, onion, garlic and red pepper over medium heat.

    Cook, stirring, 3 to 4 minutes.

    Add the tomatoes, basil, bay leaf, salt and pepper.

    Bring to a low simmer and then reduce heat to low.

    Cover and cook about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Discard the bay leaf.
