- 5 cups water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup hominy grits
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 3 tablespoons butter up TO 4
- pepper to taste
Directions

1Bring water to boil and add salt.

2Add grits, 1/4 cup at a time, and stir constantly. When all the grits have been added, reduce heat and simmer covered for approximately 30-40 minutes, stirring grits occasionally to prevent sticking.

3When all the water has been absorbed and the grits are done, add the sugar and butter and stir.

4Serve the grits in a bowl, adding freshly ground pepper to taste and additional salt and butter if desired.
