Hominy Grits

  • 5 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup hominy grits
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter up TO 4
  • pepper to taste

Directions

    Bring water to boil and add salt.

    Add grits, 1/4 cup at a time, and stir constantly. When all the grits have been added, reduce heat and simmer covered for approximately 30-40 minutes, stirring grits occasionally to prevent sticking.

    When all the water has been absorbed and the grits are done, add the sugar and butter and stir.

    Serve the grits in a bowl, adding freshly ground pepper to taste and additional salt and butter if desired.
