  • 1 c. chopped walnuts
  • 3/4 c. chopped pitted dates
  • 3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 c. butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cardamom
  • 1 tsp. grated orange rind
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. honey
  • powdered sugar

    Combine walnuts and dates; dredge in 3 tablespoons flour, stirring to coat evenly.

    Set aside.

    Cream butter in a large bowl. Gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer.

    Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Combine 1 cup flour and next 4 ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix after each addition.

    Stir in the walnut-date mixture.

    Spoon mixture into a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

    Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

    Drizzle with honey; cool in pan.

    Cut into 1 1/2-inch squares or diamonds.

    Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Yields 4 dozen.
