  • 4 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 6 Tbsp. cold water
  • 1 large pkg. chocolate chips
  • 4 egg whites
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • salted peanuts, chopped

    Sift together flour, soda, baking powder and salt.

    Cream shortening and brown sugar.

    Add egg yolks and vanilla.

    Blend in alternately dry ingredients and cold water.

    Press into a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Sprinkle chocolate chips over dough and press in gently. Beat egg whites until foamy.

    Gradually add brown sugar and beat until stiff.

    Spread over dough.

    Top with chopped peanuts.

    Bake at 325° for 30 to 35 minutes.
