Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs room temp.
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup nuts chopped
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 2 teaspoons milk

Directions

    Cake:Scald milk. Mix dry ingredients. Beat eggs with mixer at high speed until lemony and thick. Gradually add sugar while mixer is still on high; take 5 minutes to add sugar. Then at low speed, blend in flour mixture just until smooth. Add warm milk and vanilla just until combined. Pour immediately into an ungreased 10-inch iron skillet or 9-inch square greased baking pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly pressed.

    Topping:Preheat broiler. Combine all ingredients for topping, adding milk last.

    Spread on warm cake. Broil 5-inches from broiler for about 3 minutes, until bubbles and browns.
