Ingredients

  • 2 cakes or pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 4 c. milk, scalded
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • flour to handle

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water with 1 tablespoon sugar. Scald milk and let cool.

    Add sugar, shortening, salt and flour to handle.

    Knead until not sticky.

    Let rise until light.

    Knead down; let rise again.

    Make into buns and let rise.

    Bake plain rolls at 400° for 10 to 15 minutes.

    This is a good basic dough even for sweet rolls.

    If used for sweet rolls, follow the recipe except when used with a sugar-butter coating try a 350° to 375° oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until bottoms are lightly browned in glass pan.

    (This can be used very well with Rapidmix method of Fleischmann's.)
