Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. scalded milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. cold water
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 7 1/2 c. sifted plain flour

Directions

    Combine shortening and boiling water; stir until shortening is melted.

    Combine eggs, sugar and salt and beat in cold water. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water.

    Combine 3 mixtures and add flour.

    If dough is too soft to hold shape, add 1/4 cup more flour.

    Cover and let stand in warm place 2 hours or until double in bulk.

    Shape into rolls and allow to rise until double again. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes.
