Ingredients

  • 2 cans sauerkraut
  • 1 (12 oz.) can sliced mushrooms
  • 6 strips bacon, fried crisp and crumbled
  • 4 lb. beef stew meat or cubed venison
  • 1 pkg. onion soup mix
  • 2 cans beef gravy
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. whiskey
  • 1 c. hot water

    Drain sauerkraut and place in a saucepan.

    Add mushrooms (undrained) and simmer 20 minutes. Fry the bacon until crisp and remove from pan.

    Brown meat in bacon drippings.

    Drain.

    In a large casserole, place meat, sauerkraut mixture and crumbled bacon.

    Mix rest of ingredients together and pour over.

    Cover and bake for 2 hours at 325°.
