Ingredients
- 8 c. vegetable oil
- 3 c. cornmeal
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1/2 c. water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 small onion, minced
Directions

1In a deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 365°.

2In large mixing bowl, combine all other ingredients; blend well.

3Shape batter into small balls, approximately 1 tablespoon each.

4Use a long handle spoon to slide balls into the oil.

5Cook hush puppies, 8 or 10 at a time, until brown.

6Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon.

7Roll on paper towels until drained.

8Serve hot.

9Makes 2 dozen.
