  • 1/4 lb. butter
  • 1 lb. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. nuts (black or English walnuts)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 1/2 c. flour

    Cream the butter. Add sugar, beaten eggs and sifted dry ingredients.

    Mix well. Form dough into 3 rolls. Chill for 4 hours.

    Cut in 1/4-inch slices and bake in slow oven at 300° until light brown.
