Ingredients
- 4 qt. cucumbers
- 2 c. salt
- 1 gal. boiling water
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. powdered alum
- 2 1/2 qt. vinegar
- 5 lb. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. whole allspice
Directions

1Cut cucumbers in quarters lengthwise.

2Dissolve salt in boiling water.

3Pour over cucumbers in crock.

4Weight down with a plate.

5Let stand for 1 week.

6Drain and add 1 gallon fresh boiling water and alum to pickles.

7Let stand for 24 hours. Drain.

8Make syrup of vinegar, sugar and allspice.

9Heat to boiling.

10Boil for 20 minutes.

11Pour over cucumbers in crock.

12Let stand for 3 days.

13Pack pickles in jars.

14Reheat syrup to boiling. Boil 10 minutes and pour over pickles.

15Seal at once.
