  • 3 cups Flour
  • 2/3 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1-1/2 cup Raisins
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 2 cups Buttermilk
  • 2-1/2 Tablespoons Melted Butter, Cooled, Divided (if Using Salted Butter, Omit Salt)
  • 1-1/2 Tablespoon Caraway Seeds

    Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 2 7-cup loaf pans or a 9-inch cake pan.

    Sift flour, sugar, soda, baking powder, and salt if using. Add raisins and mix thoroughly. Beat eggs, then combine with buttermilk, 2 tablespoons of the melted butter and caraway seeds. Mix liquid and dry ingredients just until combined and pour into prepared pan. Drizzle remaining 1/2 tablespoon of melted butter on top.

    Bake for 45-60 minutes, checking after 45 minutes by inserting a clean butter knife into the middle of the loaf. Knife should come out clean. Let cool completely before slicing.
