- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 6 eggs
- 5 c. sifted flour
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 to 4 drops anise oil
- 1 c. chopped walnuts or dates or raisins (optional)
Directions

1Beat eggs; add sugar and shortening.

2Add flour, baking powder, salt and anise oil.

3Mix well.

4Shape into small loaves; pat with flour and let it stand for 1 to 2 hours.

5Bake at 350° for 20 minutes or until lightly browned; cool.

6Cut into 2-inch slices and return to oven for 10 minutes longer.

7May be iced with colorful sprinkles.
