Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. chopped onions
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 or 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 12 oz. tomato paste
  • 16 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1/4 c. chopped parsley
  • 4 c. tomato juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. sage
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 2 c. water
  • sliced mushrooms (if desired)

Directions

    In a large skillet, cook onions until almost tender. Add the ground beef and garlic and brown lightly. Add sliced mushrooms. Stir in remaining ingredients.

    Simmer, uncovered, for 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until thick.

    Remove bay leaves.

    Serve over spaghetti.
