  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. anise or almond extract
  • 1 Tbsp. anise seed
  • 1 c. sliced almonds

Directions

    In mixing bowl, cream margarine and sugar together until light and fluffy.

    Add 2 eggs and flavoring.

    Stir in flour mixture and mix well.

    Add nuts to batter.

    Chill well (about 2 hours).

    Shape into 3 loaves.

    Brush top with egg white from third egg.

    Bake on slightly greased cookie sheet at 300° for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

    Slice into 1/2-inch diagonal slices.

    Return to oven and brown 30 minutes or until dry.
