- 2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. each: cloves, cinnamon and allspice
- 4 eggs, separated
- 1 c. buttermilk
- pinch of salt
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- 1 c. butter
- 1 tsp. soda
- 3 c. sifted cake flour
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. jam (any flavor)
Directions

1Cream butter and sugar; add spices, then add egg yolks, well beaten.

2Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add alternately with flour.

3Add salt, vanilla, nuts and jam.

4Fold in beaten egg whites.

5Pour into large (9 x 13 x 2 1/2-inch) loaf pan.

6Bake at 350° for 40 to 50 minutes.

7Ice with your favorite caramel icing.
