  • 6 eggs
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3 c. plain flour
  • 1 c. pecans
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 small can crushed pineapple, drained (save juice)
  • 1 medium jar maraschino cherries, drained (save juice)
  • 3 tsp. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 pt. jar jam (blackberry is best)
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • cornstarch

    Cream shortening and sugar.

    Add eggs, 1 at a time.

    Beat soda into buttermilk; add to shortening mixture.

    Add jam.

    Sift 2 cups of flour with spices; add to batter, slowly.

    Mix nuts and raisins with remaining cup of flour; add to mixture and beat.
