  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 c. nuts (black walnuts are best)
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 c. jam
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 4 eggs, separated

    Cream butter, sugar and egg yolks.

    Then add jam.

    Take 1 cup flour and coat nuts and raisins.

    Dissolve soda in buttermilk. Sift all other dry ingredients together.

    Add to first mixture with flour and buttermilk.

    Beat egg whites stiff.

    Fold into mixture.

    Bake in 3 (9 or 10-inch) pans.
