  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Grease and flour two 8-inch cake pans.

    Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.

    Cream the shortening.

    Add sugar gradually. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Combine milk and vanilla. Add 1/3 of the flour mixture, then half of the milk.

    Repeat until all ingredients are added.

    Pour into prepared pans and bake at 375° for 30 to 35 minutes. Spread layers with favorite jam or jelly.
