Kettle Corn

1 steps

Ingredients

  • 8 cups freshly popped popcorn
  • 1 Tbsp corn oil
  • 1 Tbsp butter or margarine
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • salt to taste

Directions

  1. 1
    {"0":"Place popcorn in a large bowl (with extra room for tossing).","2":"Place a small bowl of cold water next to the stove (this will be used to test the doneness of the coating).","4":"Combine oil, butter, 2 Tbsp water and brown sugar in a small pot (don't use a teflon coated pan- it may reduce the anti-stick properties). Heat over medium flame to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and continue cooking and stirring about 3 minutes longer. Test the coating by dropping a small amount from a spoon into the bowl of water. It is ready when it solidifies into a hard ball- when removed from the water, ball will hold its shape until pressed (coating will be at about 250 - 266 degrees). Once this stage is reached, remove pot from heat immediately.","6":"Drizzle coating over the popcorn, tossing with a wooden spoon as you go. Add salt to taste, allow to cool a few minutes, then enjoy!"}
