Ingredients

  • 4 turnips, sliced 1/8 inch thick
  • 12 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 small slice fresh ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 3 scallions, cut in 1 lengths
  • 14 teaspoon red chili pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds

Directions

    Sprinkle turnip slices with salt.

    Set aside for 2 hours.

    Rinse and drain.

    In a saucepan, combine marinade ingredients and bring to a boil.

    Add turnips and toss mixture.

    Cook until liquid comes to a boil.

    Cool; place turnips and liquid in a jar.

    Refrigerate.

    Shake jar occasionally to distribute liquid; allow flavors to blend overnight.
