- 1 pt. milk
- 1 1/2 cakes yeast
- 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. butter
- 3 egg yolks or 2 whole eggs, well beaten
- 2 tsp. salt
- flour
Directions

1Scald milk; let cool until lukewarm.

2Dissolve yeast in warm water to which has been added the sugar.

3Let rise while milk cools.

4Add dissolved yeast to cool milk and sponge and let rise until light.

5Cream together 1 cup sugar and 1 cup butter.

6Add eggs and salt.

7Then add sponge and mix well.

8Add enough flour to handle well.

9Let dough rise until light and make into kolaches. Roll out dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with biscuit cutter. Make depression in center and fill.

10Let rise and bake in quick oven, 400°, for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
