- 2 c. milk, scalded
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 2 eggs, unbeaten
- 1/2 tsp mace
- 1 cake compressed yeast or 1 pkg dry yeast
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 6 1/2 c. flour
Directions

1Cream shortening.

2Add sugar and salt.

3Blend until light. Dissolve yeast in water and add to lukewarm milk.

4Add half the flour and beat until smooth.

5Add sugar and shortening, then add eggs, beating after each addition.

6Add flavoring and enough flour to make a soft dough.

7Knead until smooth.

8Let raise until double in bulk or about 10 minutes.

9Punch down in the middle and add you favorite filling.

10Bake 20 to 25 minutes at 375°.
