Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 c. olive oil
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 (No. 2 1/2) can tomatoes
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 4 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. cayenne
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • pinch of basil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 lb. lasagna noodles
  • 3 qt. boiling water
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 lb. cottage cheese
  • 1/2 lb. Mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1/3 c. Romano, Parmesan cheese

Directions

    Cook noodles about 25 minutes.

    Drain and mix with oil. Arrange in a shallow 2 1/2-quart baking pan.

    Make 3 layers of each, sauce, noodles, cottage cheese, Mozzarella and grated cheese.

    Bake at 350° for 1 hour.
