  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 lb. mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 c. onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 large (22 to 24 oz.) can whole tomatoes
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • parsley, oregano, salt, pepper and basil to taste
  • 1 egg
  • 1 lb. Ricotta cheese
  • 1 lb. cottage cheese
  • 1 (8 oz.) bag shredded Mozzarella
  • 8 to 10 lasagne noodles

    Preheat oven to 375°.

    Brown beef with onion.

    Add mushrooms and garlic in large skillet.

    Add whole tomatoes, tomato paste, parsley and oregano, then add salt, pepper, sugar and basil. Simmer until it thickens; stir occasionally.

    Cook lasagne noodles according to the package directions.

    Beat egg in bowl.

    Stir in Ricotta and cottage cheeses and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

    Arrange 1/2 the noodles in a 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Spread with the cheese mixture. Cover with 1/2 of the meat sauce, then 1/2 of the Mozzarella. Repeat layers.

    Bake, uncovered, for 40 minutes.
