- 2 c. lentils (1 bag)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 c. celery with leaves
- 1/2 c. carrots
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 2 Tbsp. flour
Directions

1Wash lentils and soak overnight covered in water.

2Drain lentils, reserving liquid to make 10 cups.

3Add lentils.

4Cook, covered, 2 hours with a ham bone.

5Add onion, celery, carrots, garlic and sugar.

6Remove meat from bone and add to syrup.

7Melt 2 tablespoons butter and mix in 2 tablespoons flour.

8Stir into syrup until blended.

9Simmer another 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
