- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 3/4 c. warm water (105~ to 115~)
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 2 1/4 c. whole wheat flour
- 2 1/4 to 2 3/4 c. all-purpose flour

Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large mixing bowl; add sugar and salt to the yeast mixture.

2Melt 1/4 cup butter; cool to lukewarm.

3Add butter, egg and whole wheat flour to yeast mixture, stirring well.

4Gradually stir in enough all-purpose flour to make a soft dough.

5Turn dough out onto a well floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic (about 5 minutes).

6Place in a well-greased bowl, turning to grease top.

7Cover; let rise in a warm place (85°), free from drafts, 1 hour or until doubled in bulk.
