Ingredients
- 1 to 1 1/2 c. uncooked elbow macaroni
- 1/4 c. margarine
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 c. milk
- 8 oz. sharp American cheese
Directions

1Cook macaroni; drain.

2Cool and stir margarine, onion, salt and pepper over medium heat until onion is slightly tender.

3Stir in flour.

4Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is smooth and bubbly.

5Remove from heat.

6Stir in milk.

7Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.

8Boil and stir one minute.

9Remove from heat.
-
10Stir in cheese until melted.

11Place macaroni in ungreased 1 1/2-quart casserole.

12Stir cheese sauce into macaroni. Bake, uncovered, in 375° oven for 30 minutes.
