Maple-Apple Upside-Down Cake

- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 2 medium sized tart apples
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. ground mace or allspice
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. maple syrup
- 5 maraschino cherries, halved
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. butter
- 1/2 c. milk
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a 9-inch round skillet.

3Stir in syrup and mix well.

4Core apples.

5Slice in 1/2-inch rounds and arrange in the syrup, placing an end slice skin side down.

6Arrange cherries in and around apple slices. Peel remaining apple pieces and chop or grate to make about 2/3 cup.
