  • 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/2 c. dark corn syrup
  • 1/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 1/2 tsp. maple flavoring
  • 1 1/2 c. walnut pieces

Directions

    Combine sugars, water and syrup in a large, heavy saucepan over medium heat. Stir to dissolve. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue cooking, without stirring, until candy thermometer registers 300° (a teaspoonful of syrup will separate into hard brittle threads when dropped in cold water).
