- 4 cups flour, all-purpose
- 13 cup sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 23 cup butter
- 113 cups buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 ounces chocolate (semi-sweet) melted, 1-oz squares, semisweet
Directions

1Heat oven to 425'F.

2Grease large baking sheet.

3In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.

4In small bowl, combine buttermilk and vanilla.

5In cup, combine 1/4 cup buttermilk mixture and the chocolate.

6Add remaining buttermilk mixture to remaining flour mixture in large bowl and mix lightly with fork until it clings together and forms a soft dough.

7Turn both doughs out onto lightly floured surface; divide chocolate dough into 6 pieces.

8Dot 3 chocolate pieces over surface of plain dough.

9Place scones, 1 inch apart, on greased baking sheet.

10Pierce tops with tines of fork.

11Bake scones 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown.
