- 1 small onion
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 can plum tomatoes
- 2 tbsp. tomato paste
- 2 tbsp. chopped fresh basil or parsley
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1In nonreactive 3-quart saucepan, heat oil over medium heat; add onion and garlic and cook, stirring, until onion is tender, about 5 minutes.

2Stir in tomatoes with their juice, tomato paste, basil if using, and salt.

3Heat to boiling, breaking up tomatoes with side of spoon.

4Reduce heat; partially cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, until sauce has thickened slightly, about 20 minutes.
