  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 2 large onions, shredded
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric or few drops yellow food coloring
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • grated carrot or green pepper for color

Directions

    Mix sugar, vinegar, celery seed, turmeric, salt and pepper and heat until sugar is dissolved.

    Pour over shredded cabbage and onions and mix thoroughly.

    Refrigerate.

    Will keep for 3 to 4 weeks and will stay crisp.
