- 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1 pound Sweet Italian Sausage
- 1/2 pounds Ground Beef
- 1 Tablespoon Fresh Basil, Chopped Plus Extra For Garnish, If Desired
- 12 ounces, weight (1 Can) Diced Tomatoes
- 15 ounces, weight Ricotta Cheese
- 1/2 cups Freshly Grated Parmesan Cheese Plus Extra For Garnish
- 2 Tablespoons Fresh Parsley, Chopped
- 2 whole Eggs, Beaten
- 2 teaspoons Kosher Salt
- 1/2 teaspoons Ground Black Pepper
- 9 whole Lasagna Noodles (or Rice Noodles If Going Gluten-free)
- 1- 1/2 cup Tomato Lasagna Sauce
- 16 ounces, weight Fresh Mozzarella Cheese, Thinly Sliced
Directions

1Preheat oven to 375 degrees (F).

2In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.

3Add Italian sausage and ground beef and cook until well-browned.

4Once well-browned, add basil and diced tomatoes.

5Once heated through, set aside.

6Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese, parsley, eggs, salt and pepper.

7Stir to combine.

8This will constitute the cheese filling for the lasagna.

9Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook lasagna noodles until tender, but not completely cooked through.

10Remove from water and drain.

11Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce (click on Related Blog Link for my favorite pasta sauce) over the bottom of a 13-inch by 9-inch baking dish.

12Arrange noodles, slightly overlapping, over the sauce and across the bottom of the dish.

13Spread another thin layer of tomato sauce over the noodles.

14Spread a layer of cheese, using about half the cheese filling, over the sauce.

15Spread a layer of meat, using about half the meat, over the cheese sauce.

16Spread a thin layer of mozzarella cheese over the meat layer.

17Repeat these steps, starting with the noodles, sauce, cheese filling and meat.

18Top the final layer with a generous portion of mozzarella.

19Bake in oven for 30 minutes, or until the cheese starts to become golden brown around the edges and the lasagna is bubbling.

20Let stand about 10 minutes prior to cutting into squares for serving.

21Garnish with grated parmesan cheese or julienned basil, if desired.
