- 4 eggs
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 c. Gold Medal flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 4 Tbsp. heavy cream
- 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 c. sugar
Directions

1Beat egg whites, cream of tartar and 1 cup sugar until very stiff.

2Cream butter and 3/4 cup sugar until fluffy.

3Add egg yolks.

4Add flour and baking powder alternately with the cream. (Use 2 round pans.)

5Divide the butter mixture and spread out in pans.

6Top, divided egg mixture so cake is completely covered. Bake in slow oven so meringue does not get too brown, 40 minutes. (Try sides to test doneness.)

7Put fresh strawberries and whipped cream between layers.
