- 2 egg whites at room temperature
- 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. flavoring (vanilla or almond) or 1/8 tsp. coconut flavoring
- 1/2 c. coarsely chopped nuts or pecan halves, placed on top of meringues
Directions

1Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff but not dry. Add sugar 2 tablespoons at a time, beating constantly.

2Add flavoring and nuts.

3Line cookie sheet with foil or brown paper. Drop meringues by rounded teaspoons or larger if desired.

4Bake at 275° for 45 to 50 minutes.

5Meringues should be slightly browned. Remove from oven and place meringues on rack to cool.
