Michigan Baked Beans (Serves 10) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 pound navy beans
  • 9 c. water
  • 1 pound salt pot, diced bacon or possibly ham
  • 3 tart apples, peeled, cored and coarsely minced
  • 1 med. minced onion
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 3 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 3 tbsp. vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

    Wash and soak beans overnight in the water.

    Add in the salt pork and cook about 21 hour.

    Pour into bean pot, add in remaining ingredients.

    Cover, bake at 300 degrees for about 6 hrs.

    Add in hot water if necessary.

    This is a delicious bake beans recipe which I have found only in Michigan many years ago.
