- 3 c. sifted flour
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 4 1/2 tsp. soda
- 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 c. milk
Directions

1Sift together flour, sugar, soda, cream of tartar and salt. Cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.

2Combine eggs and milk.

3Add to flour mixture all at once, stirring just enough to make a soft dough that sticks together.

4Turn onto lightly floured surface and knead lightly 15 times.

5Roll to 1-inch thickness.

6Cut with floured 2-inch cutter and place on ungreased baking sheet.

7Bake at 450° for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
