- 3 c. flour
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. plus 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. shortening (Crisco)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3/4 c. milk
Directions

1Combine first 5 ingredients.

2Mix well.

3Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.

4Combine egg and milk.

5Add to flour.

6Knead mixture 8 to 10 times.

7Roll dough to 1 inch thickness.

8Cut with 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.

9Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet.

10Bake at 450° for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

11Yields 15 biscuits.
