Ingredients
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. plus 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3/4 c. milk
Directions

1Combine first 5 ingredients, mixing well.

2Cut in shortening with pastry blender until resembles coarse meal.

3Combine the egg and milk and add to flour mixture.

4Stir until all these ingredients are moistened.

5Turn onto floured surface and knead about 10 times.

6Roll to 1-inch thick.

7Cut with biscuit cutter (about 2 1/2-inch size).

8Place on ungreased baking sheet.

9Bake at 450° for 15 minutes or until biscuits are golden.

10Yields about 15 biscuits.
