- 1/2 lb. Italian sausage
- 2 1/2 to 3 lb. beef shanks
- 8 c. water
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 c. sliced zucchini
- 1 c. sliced carrots
- 1 c. chopped celery
- 4 oz. (1 c.) uncooked shell macaroni
- 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 1 tsp. basil leaves, crushed
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 28 oz. can tomatoes, undrained and cut up
- 16 oz. can kidney beans, undrained
- 8 oz. can tomato sauce

1If sausage comes in casing, remove casing.

2In 6-quart saucepot, brown sausage and break into small pieces.

3Remove sausage from saucepot; drain on paper towel.
