Ingredients
- 6 to 8 mint leaves
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Crushed ice
- 2 1/2 ounces bourbon
- Splash Simple Syrup, recipe follows
- Sprig mint, for garnish
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
Directions

1Put the mint leaves and the sugar in the bottom of a tall glass.

2With the handle of a wooden spoon, crush and mash the leaves to extract the flavor.

3Fill the glass with crushed (not cubed) ice.

4Pour in the bourbon.

5Top with a splash of simple syrup.

6With a long-handled spoon, jiggle (not stir) to chill and mix.

7Garnish with a sprig of mint.

8Sip.

9Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

10Cook until sugar is dissolved, about 2 minutes.

11Remove from the heat and cool completely.

12Yield: About 1 1/2 cups simple syrup
