  • 1 c. water
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract (I use a few drops of oil of peppermint)
  • few drops red or green food coloring

Directions

    Stir water, sugar and butter or margarine in a large saucepan over a medium heat until sugar and butter or margarine are dissolved.
  2. 2
    Cook, without stirring, until a few drops tested in cold water produce a soft, crackable thread (261° on thermometer). Pour onto greased tray.
