Ingredients
- 3 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water (110~ to 115~)
- 5 c. flour (self-rising)
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. Crisco shortening
- 2 c. warm buttermilk (110~ to 115~)
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water; set aside.

2In a large mixing bowl, mix flour, sugar and baking soda.

3Cut Crisco in with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.

4Stir in yeast mixture and buttermilk; mix well.

5Turn out onto a floured surface; knead lightly a few times.

6Roll to a 1/2 inch thickness.

7Place on greased pans.

8Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.

9Bake at 400° for 10 minutes, or until brown.

10Makes 4 dozen rolls.
