Mom'S Bread Pudding

  • 1/2 c. raisins
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 c. day old bread, cubed
  • 3 c. warm milk
  • 2 Tbsp. melted butter
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • milk or whipped cream (optional)

    In saucepan, cover raisins with water. Bring to a boil and simmer for a few minutes.

    Drain.

    Put cubed bread in greased, oven-safe bowl. Blend in milk and eggs. Add sugar, raisins, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. Allow to soak for 5 minutes. Place in an oven-safe, larger bowl of hot water.

    Bake in a preheated 350° oven for 1 hour or until custard is set.
